Overview

Taylors Manufacturing fabricated the Taymac 20-4 multicyclone grit arrestor and FB630 induced draft (ID) fan as part of a flue gas control system for a timber processing facility in Rangiora, New Zealand.

Designed by Vortex Engineering, the equipment is designed for continuous industrial service at flue gas temperatures of up to 220°C, requiring heavy-duty construction, accurate fabrication and airtight assembly.

Manufacturing

The project involved the fabrication of large welded assemblies with tight dimensional control to achieve accurate fit-up and alignment throughout manufacture.

Taylors used a combination of plate rolling, CNC machining, heavy welding and precision assembly, with particular attention given to the alignment of components within the multicyclone to achieve the airflow distribution specified by the design. For the ID fan, precise alignment of the motor shaft and impeller shaft at the coupling was also critical to ensure smooth and reliable operation.

The fabricated assemblies were constructed to be fully airtight and leak-proof, minimising air leakage and supporting system performance under induced draft operation.

The completed equipment was finished with a high-temperature protective coating suitable for a C3 exterior environment and supplied as part of the integrated flue gas cleaning system for installation at the client’s timber processing facility.
