Overview

Taylors successfully completed various components for a biomass boiler conversion project at a dairy factory in Canterbury, New Zealand, in collaboration with Vortex. This initiative aimed to support the client’s commitment to environmental sustainability by reducing reliance on coal and introducing biomass as an alternative fuel source.

Design and Fabrication:

Taylors fabricated several key components based on Vortex’s designs:

  • PD32 Baghouse
  • PB60 x 3000 Baghouse
  • FX 450 ARR4
  • Mobile Hopper

Mission and Execution:

Our mission was to enable our client to move towards greater environmental sustainability by upgrading their boiler system. We designed, fabricated, and installed a brand-new material handling system for wood pellet receival, storage, and forward transfer. This system allowed for simple switching between fuel feed types, optimizing opportunities to lower the factory’s carbon footprint.

The project required a comprehensive material handling and storage system capable of managing the unique characteristics of wood pellets. This included critical factors such as truck unloading, pellet transfer, storage, and dust control on a restricted footprint.

Outcome:

In 2023, Taylors successfully commissioned the full turnkey system, significantly reducing the client’s boiler-related carbon emissions. This marked a substantial step towards a greener and more sustainable future.

Taylors’ role in this project highlights our capability to fabricate critical components, ensuring a successful transition to biomass fuel and demonstrating our dedication to sustainable engineering practices.
