Building the Next Generation of Manufacturing Talent

Taylors Manufacturing and Taurus Engineering are supporting the next generation of manufacturing talent through the Earn As You Learn programme, led by Advancing Manufacturing Aotearoa in partnership with Ara Institute of Canterbury.

The programme gives students the opportunity to earn a wage while working towards a New Zealand Certificate in Manufacturing (Level 3), gaining practical experience with local employers and exploring future career pathways.

As part of the initiative, groups of high school students visited the Taurus and Taylors workshops to see modern manufacturing in action, including our machinery, equipment and current projects.

Taylors Manufacturing’s Chief Operating Officer, Mark Weaver, highlighted the importance of introducing young people to today’s manufacturing industry.

“What’s become startlingly apparent is that there isn’t the workforce out there for the types of things that we’re building and manufacturing. We’ve got an ageing demographic in our workforce and what we really need to start doing is showing younger people what manufacturing these days actually looks like.”

Through initiatives like this, Taylors and Taurus hope to inspire the next generation of engineers, fabricators and manufacturing professionals.
